Preparing for Sunday

The floor was washed for every Church Anniversary and was washed until the floor boards were white.
The tram stopped at the corner of Gilbert Road and Cramer Street, West Preston for several passengers to alight. The notice board in the corner of the chruch block indicated that the Sunday School Anniversary services were being held this day 11AM, 3PM and 7PM respectively. This was a special annual occasion, and serveral cars were parked on the block. Children were making their way into the hall at the rear of the church. Girls clad in their pretty dresses, some with crimped hair beribboned and boys with shining faces hair neatly parted all looking eagerly forward to the service to begin. As the congregation arrived the piano supported by the violin struck up a lively march the children came down the aisle toward the tiered platform with its rows of seats. The older children desiring to occupy the topmost row. The speaker having announced the first piece on the hymn sheet the children sang with eyes fixed upon thier music conductor, and it was joy to listen to their voices, so much so that one was uplifted by the sincerity of their message. The speaker had brought along an electric train set and as he talked to the children they were almost spellbound. Always on this special day the church would be filled to capacity.
